After seeing this thread a while back, I decided to join up over there. Holy moly! Have they got some horribly damaged pictures to choose from. Plus, the thumbnail they show you doesn't really tell the whole story (I kinda knew that but oh my!).

Anyway, I picked out my first picture and I've been working on it a couple of days now. Here are before and in progress pics. Its actually an 8x10 at 300dpi, so its pretty big and nice to work with. I thought it looked like one of the easier ones but its been a real chore so far.

You're doing a good job with it mate!

You're right, there are some terribly damaged photos over there.

Think the hardest part is when you have to "guess" what used to be in a part of the picture.....

Let us see the finished product won't cha!

Welp! Here's what is being sent home. Adding items is not aloud so indecipherable areas just get bended and blurred.

Well I think that's pretty darn amazing mate!

Pity you can't add missing stuff, but it's incredible what you've done with it.

You did an awesome job of the flowers.....that whole corner was SUCH a mess!

Are you going to do any more?

Thank you!!!

The reason we're not allowed to add things....If it were your family pic, would you like to see it as an artist's rendering with things that were never there or just accept that some of the damage was irreparable. I thought about that pretty hard when I joined.

In the lower left, I saw a lamp, a chair and his hand holding the flowers, but they were just too damaged to pull back out.

They want the memory back, not a new pic.

Sorry, I didn't mean that to sound harsh if it did....but its a different mind-set in there. Kinda new to me.......but the volunteers are incredible. Even a few names I know.

Yeah, I have new projects. I'll post them later....OMFGoodness! Can't believe I chose these (we chose from thumbnails). When we download the 300dpi at print size, its usually like HOLY MOLY!!!! OMFCheeseandrice!!

Mr. Green

Thanks!!! Here's one of my latest. They're not all this hard.

Oz, you need to write down your password, this will help with your login problems...I swear. Smile You could be of great benefit over there and they have another 500 pics coming in now.....

This is pretty good, must take forever & from what I can gather alot of frustration...though from what I can see the users over at Operation Photo Rescue are more than eager to help.

You're doing some wonderful work Pelican & for a worthy cause.

Pelican is doing a wonderful job isn't he.

I was reading the continuing story about one of his restorations in the thread he links to above.

How through the help of some detective work he found the owner of the "missing face" in the photo and how he now can move on with restoring after being stuck.

Click here to see how he found the "missing face"!

Thanks all.

Jules I had that picture for 3 months trying to sort out that one last detail. Man that was hard.

There's a funny story behind the one that Kellie posted above. Its a little sad too but there was a former noob that had no business choosing difficult restores and just couldn't stay away from them. He butchered this pic as well as several others.

Theres an inside joke at OPR with noobs having troubles sorting out what to do with things that are completely destroyed. Mountainous backgrounds, tutus and teddybears. Its kind of comical watching the pattern.

Anyway the dude quit, his threads were deleted and all of the photos he worked on were put back in the to-do list. He had the audacity to whine that his cintiq was not up to our standards. Well, its not in the cintiq.

Between myself and OPR Pres Christine there were some very inappropriate PM's, lol, hoping he would lurk back and see. So I did it as fast as I could. From the time he quit to the time I sent this home (as done) was less than 48 hrs. Not bragging cuz this was the easiest pic I've done over there. The blue channel was clear as a bell and all I did was tidy it and re-color. What Kellie posted above was just my first draft.

I really like OPR. You folks should join and participate.
