Make money by just adding some code and a little bit of research!
Google Adsesne. The wonder of it all
Yes, anyone online can make quite a bit of money just by having Adsense ads on their pages.
Just dropping the code into a site without much thought won't do you much good though.
There are stacks of sites with Adsense code, but the ones who pull in a good profit are the ones who have taken the time to optimise the ads, optimise their site content and keywords and have excellent traffic.
If you get those three things right, then you will have a little money making machine running 24-7.
Add lots more sites, and you have LOTS of Google Adsense income streaming into your bank account!
Below are some tips on how to do it and some good resources to use.
Quick Steps To Get You Started
It's not hard to get a website going these days, and even easier to get a blog started.Getting Adsense on your site or blog is pretty easy also.
The main steps to start getting Adsense revenue are as follows:
- Decide on your website or blog theme
- Build up some quality content (more than a couple of pages)
- Optimize your site, especially your keywords (so you get the ads you want)
- Get your site online
- Make the ad code blend in and match your content (heading colors, background etc)
- Place the ad code in "hotspot" positions on your site
- Get traffic to your site
What NOT to do
One thing I would suggest you DON'T do, is try and take the easy road and buy ready made "Google Adsense templates".
You will have the most success using your OWN content. If you use duplicate content (and if you are using these templates you can bet your life a HEAP of others have the exact same ones) you will be running the risk of ending up with having your Adsense account banned.
Be original.......it's safer.
Niche Websites Using Adsense
If you are thinking of making a website to gain money from Adsense, that's fine, but make sure you don't build solely for Adsense, build it for people also.
There are so many sites out there which just have Adsense code all over them, and very little content. Google frowns on these, and so does the unfortunate public that come across them.
You will make much more money if you build a site with useful information, and will find getting traffic will be much easier (a huge key to whether you will get any money or not)
That being said, paying attention to what keywords have a higher value is a good idea.
That means if you optimize for high value keywords, the ads showing on your site will be worth more per click than lower value keywords.
Doesn't necessarily mean you will make more money using high value keywords, your SITE value has to be of some worth to the visitor also. Sites which rank better get a better payout than sites with a lower rank.
Niche Website Keyword Tools
To make excellent money using Adsense, you really have to understand what the most profitable keywords are for your particular niche.
You used to be able to use the Overture Bid Tool to see what the going rate was for a particular keyword or phrase, but
unfortunately that isn't functional anymore.
However, you can still use the UK and Australian versions of this tool, and they give you a rough idea of what keywords are more profitable than others.

OVERTURE BID TOOL - AU.
Top Ten Analysis SEO Tool is interesting also (free)
It tells you how your site ranks in keywords compared to the top ten sites. Just choose the keywords you want to check, and your site URL and it gives you an awesome amount of information, including which sites are ahead of you in regards to your keywords.
I also love this free program called Keyword Explorer.
Keyword Explorer gives you a snapshot view of the how a keyword phrase is used by different web pages that are listed in Google. You will also see a list of all the competing URLs and the titles used by these web pages.
Good Keywords is a free program you can download which can tell you how many searches a keyword or keyword phrase has had for the last month. (basically it's similar to the online Keyword Selector Tool, but has more easy to use options built in.)
It's a great way to "focus down" onto keywords and phrases which are searched
regularly. (and find profitable keywords with the less competition)
Another good little free tool is this Keyword Density Tool. Once you download it you can check your online webpages and local webpages on your computer to see what the keyword density is for a particular keyword.
It's a good idea to check the density of your keywords, so you can optimize them "without over doing it", which can cause your page to get penalized by search engines.
Stick to about a 3% density for your keywords or phrases 4% at the most.
(some people say you can go as high as 6%, but I usually stick to around 3%)
There is a free online version of Wordtracker....the most accurate of the online keyword search tools.
There is also a new online Wordtracker version which includes Google Trends data. I love this added feature, because when you click on the google graph next to your keyword phrase, it pops up trend data and lets you know if the keywords you have selected are viable for a niche both in terms of traffic and competition. It's a great way to get a "quick view" of whether your niche keywords are going to be any good.
Best Keyword Tools
The top of the line keyword research tool is Wordtracker.
You have to pay for the service, but you can sign up to use Wordtracker for small amounts of time, say for a week if you're only need it for a one time optimization of your site.
Keyword Elite - great for making keyword lists, checking PPC ad prices, checking out your competition, creating adsense sites, creating adwords campaigns....an EXCELLENT investment, cuts down on so much of the drudgery relating to keyword research!!!
Click Ad Equalizer - an affordable alternative to the higher priced keyword tools. It doesn't give as many search results as other more expensive keword tools, but it has an easy to use interface and quickly shows which keywords are popular, what affiliate programs others are using for the keywords, and gives you the top 300 most popular daily searches. If you are just starting out it's probably the easiest to use.

There's an excellent case study you can download which illustrates another method of creating a good income stream using Google Adsense.
It can be setup easily on webpages of your choice and when done properly makes quite a decent profit.

Best Adsense Information Guide
I could waffle on for hours explaining about optimizing your site for Google Adsense.
There are so many facets that are important to get right if you want to make real money.
The best information I could give anyone is a link to the best Adsense guide I've come across called Google Adsense Secrets. (2008 Edition)
It covers everything, optimizing your site, what ad units to use, which ones convert the best, keyword values, using channels.....in fact way to much to include it all here. It's a MUST for anyone thinking of using or currently using Google Adsense.
Follow the link below to get this bargain priced guide.
Google AdSense Secrets
Recently Google has added a feature called
"Site Authentication".
If you have a site which has certain sections which are password protected for your subscribers, Google Adsense can't access these pages, so you run the risk of getting "garbage" ads that have nothing to do with your site.
With the new Site Authentication feature, you can now give Google a password and username, so it can gain access to these sections and show targeted ads which relate to your content.
The new feature can be found in your Google Adsense setup tab.
Competitive Ad Filter Tip
If you are using Google Adsense, you'll notice from your statistics that some ads pay better than others.
Some ads that come from Google are from MFA sites (made for ads sites - you know, the sites you go to sometimes by following a link you think will be helpful, and all you find is a page with a heading and Google ads).
Also, some of the ads you get are just low cost per click ads.
If you go into your Adsense account area and go to Adsense Setup, you'll see the Competitive Ad Filter tab.
You can include 200 different URL's in the filter. It's used to "filter out" ads from sites you don't want (eg sites from your competition)
There is a site called AdsBlackList.com. If you sign up there, you can add your site url to your account, ad your site keywords and then generate a list of either/or MFA sites that might show up in ads for your site keywords or LCPC sites.
All you do then is copy and paste this list to the Competitive Ad Filter in your Adsense account, and you have essentially reduced the amount of low paying ads on your website.
The success with this method depends a lot on the type of site you have. Sometimes the most appealing ads to your visitors are the ones that are lower paying, and they might be the ones that are making your money.
I've tried it on a couple of sites, on one it didn't really make much difference, and on the other, it did improve the Adsense revenue by a couple of dollars.
So it pays to test this method out properly to see if it does really make a difference to your site.
And remember, if you see any ads that you
specifically don't want on your site, take note of the urls and ad them to your filter.
Visit AdsBlackList.com and try it out for yourself.

Here are some other links with information and tools relating to Adsense.Highest paying search terms (from Google Adwords, July 2007)

See Google ads from other countries This is a Firefox extension which is great for seeing what ads for various keywords are being shown in countries other than your own. (because as you have probably noticed, you get ads served to you depending on your geographic location, so unless you go through a proxy, you can't see the ads that users in other countries are getting.)
